Broward Schools Credit Union Changes Its Name to BrightStar Credit Union

Sunrise, FL—January 6, 2005—Broward Schools Credit Union with 39,000 members and $250 million in assets has announced its new name, BrightStar Credit Union.

The Credit Union, which has served the employees of Broward County Public Schools since 1946, is now open to the community. Anyone who lives or works in Broward County, Boca Raton or Delray Beach is eligible to become a member.

“We’re still the same great Credit Union—owned by the same folks, our members—and with the same friendly staff,” says Raffael Crockett, the Credit Union’s CEO, “We’ve simply changed our name to help us get the word out that we are now open to the community. The BrightStar Credit Union name will help us to deliver low-cost financial services to all people in South Florida.”

Officials at the Credit Union say that their new name will allow them to embrace their educational roots as well as offer Credit Union services to more people.

“We’re very proud of our heritage,” says the Credit Union’s Board Chair, Dr. Dorothy Orr, “We remain dedicated to serving Broward Schools. You can expect us to continue to be very involved in Broward County Public Schools now and in the future.”

Credit Union officials say they started the name change process more than two years ago. “We considered over one thousand names,” says Crockett. “We think the BrightStar Credit Union name will serve us with distinction for years to come. It signifies hope for the future, strength and a guiding light.”
