BrightStar Credit Union is thrilled to announce significant improvements to our debit card service this September. We're committed to providing our members with the best products and services, and these enhancements are designed to serve you better.

New Contactless Cards

All current debit cardholders will receive a newly designed contactless (tap to pay) BrightStar debit card, offering faster and more convenient transactions.

Improved Online Banking

Enjoy a seamless Online Banking experience. Manage your debit card account, track your spending, and report lost or stolen cards all within our platform.

Enhanced Security

Our new debit cards come with advanced security features to protect your transactions and give you peace of mind.

This September, we're enhancing our debit card program, starting with a sleek new design and updated features. We've put together this guide to help answer any questions you might have:
August 22nd - August 29th, 2024
Receive Your New Debit Card

Your new debit card will be mailed during this period. Once you receive it, you must keep it somewhere safe until you activate it.

August 30, 2024
Card App Discontinued

On this date, the BrightStar Card App will be discontinued, and you can delete it from your smartphone.

September 10, 2024
Last Day to Use Your Current Debit Card

After this date, your current debit card will not work.

September 11, 2024
Activate New Debit Card

Activate your new debit card using the phone number provided on the activation label. You must update your automatic payments, add your new debit card to your mobile wallet, and destroy your old debit card.

Enhancement FAQs

We strive to offer our members and staff the best products and services. BrightStar Credit Union decided to enhance our debit card program, bringing you new and updated features. You can now enjoy benefits such as contactless cards and digital issuance quickly after enhancement, and there is no need for a separate Card App. All alerts and controls will now be accessed through Online Banking.

Once you receive your new card, you should continue using your current card until 9/10/24. On 9/11/24, you should activate your new card by calling the number listed on the activation label on the front of the card, or you can call 866-985-2273 directly. Once the card is activated, you will be able to select your PIN. Your new debit card will not work before the 9/11 activation date. 

If you did not receive a new credit card, contact the credit union at 954-486-2728 on 9/12/24. 

Yes, the debit card number, expiration date, and CVV number will be different than your current debit card. Once you activate your new debit card, you can update your automatic and saved payment information.

Yes, reward points on your Debit Rewards will roll over to the new debit card.

There is no fee associated with getting your new debit card.

No, you will need to establish alerts for your new debit card. All features and functionalities of the BrightStar Card App are being moved to Online Banking; the debit card will no longer be supported in the Card App. 

You may continue using your debit card until 9/10/24; after that date, all activity will be discontinued on the old debit card, and you will need to begin using your new debit card on or after 9/11/24. Once you have successfully activated your new debit card on 9/11/24, you need to destroy your old debit card.

Yes, you may need to update your payment information with online merchants. While most large merchants will automatically update the new debit card number through services like Visa Account Updater, smaller merchants may require a manual update to the new debit card number and expiration date. Therefore, it’s important for you to check and update your payment information, especially for recurring or saved payment accounts with companies like Netflix, Amazon, Apple, etc.
