As internet usage continues to expand worldwide, financial institutions are enhancing communications with consumers using the web. With this convenience comes threats and scams. Make safe decisions when banking online by following these guidelines.
Personal Online Banking Safety
- BrightStar will never request your credentials. We will never email, call, or otherwise ask for your username, password, or other electronic banking credentials. If you're unsure about a message, contact us before responding.
- Use strong, unique passwords. Combine lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and numbers. Avoid birthdays, family names, or other easily obtainable information.
- Change passwords periodically. About every 90 days helps protect you.
- Never share your passwords or member number with anyone. Keep this information in a safe and secure place.
- Use a security system. Install antivirus and firewall software on the computer you use for online banking.
- Always log off after completing transactions. Just clicking the "X" does not log you off.
- Monitor your account activity regularly to spot any unauthorized transactions.
