What is the minimum deposit?

The minimum deposit to open a Certificate of Deposit at BrightStar is $500.

Can I add money to my CD after opening?

No. CDs are a fixed deposit — once opened, you cannot add additional funds. You can open a separate CD if you'd like to deposit more.

What happens when my 6 Month CD matures?

At maturity, you have several options: withdraw your funds (principal + earned interest), renew for another 6-month term, or switch to a different term. BrightStar will notify you before maturity to discuss your options.

Is there a penalty for early withdrawal?

Yes. If you withdraw funds before the CD matures, an early withdrawal penalty may apply. The penalty amount depends on the term and is outlined in your account agreement. Contact us for specifics.

Is my deposit insured?

Yes. Your CD is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per depositor.

What's the difference between Standard and PSM rates?

PSM (Preferred Service Member) rates are our best rates, available to members who maintain certain relationship requirements. Standard rates are available to all members. Ask a representative about qualifying for PSM rates.
