Enhanced Security for Your Debit Cards
Boost the security of your BrightStar Credit Union debit cards using our Card Services tool. Take advantage of these features to keep your cards safe:
- Instantly disable your debit card to temporarily stop transactions from being approved. Recurring transactions will still be approved.
- Report a debit card as lost or stolen.
- Set up card controls and alerts for transaction limits, transaction types, and merchant categories.
- Submit travel notifications so your debit card is ready for use when traveling.
To manage your debit card, log into Online Banking or the BrightStar Mobile App. In the Navigation menu, select Manage Cards, then Debit Card Services and begin managing your debit card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Log into Online Banking or the BrightStar Mobile App, navigate to Manage Cards, then select Debit Card Services to:
- Activate new cards upon receipt
- Temporarily enable or disable a card
- Set up controls to limit spending or restrict certain transaction types
- Report a card as lost, stolen, or used fraudulently
- Set alerts for spending limits and transactions
- Submit travel notifications
Card controls allow you to restrict the use of your debit card by:
- Setting a per-transaction limit that will decline transactions exceeding that amount
- Declining specific transaction types, such as eCommerce or ATM transactions
- Blocking transactions at certain merchant types, like gas stations
Please note that while BrightStar Credit Union provides these controls, we cannot guarantee that every transaction exceeding the limits will be declined.
Yes. You can temporarily disable your card by toggling the Enable/Disable card option. This action will prevent any transactions from being authorized. To re-enable your card, simply toggle the option back.
No. Once a card is marked as lost, stolen, or fraudulent, it is permanently blocked from further use.
Alternatively, you can request a replacement card through Card Services in BrightStar Online Banking or the BrightStar Mobile App. The replacement card will be mailed to the address on file and should arrive within 7-10 business days.
Report fraudulent activity directly through Card Services by selecting the card in question and choosing the Fraud option. Then, contact us at 800-637-2728 to initiate the dispute process for debit card.
Alerts notify you by SMS and/or email whenever a transaction is made on your debit card. You can set up alerts for:
- Spending limits and international transactions
- Specific transaction types, such as eCommerce or recurring transactions
- Transactions at certain merchant types, like gas stations
